Half of R.E.M. – Bill Berry and Mike Mills, joined Ken Stringfellow and lots of other great musicians on stage last night on College Square in Downtown Athens for a free show. Put on by Spotlight Slingshot, the UGA Music Business Program and Athens Downtown and the Willis Center for Humanities and Art. They were playing songs by legendary band Big Star as Big Star’s Third.
Throughout the night an all-star band featuring original Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Chris Stamey of the The dB’s, Mitch Easter of Let’s Active, Pat Sansone of Wilco, and Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer of Big Star and The Posies. The orchestral section included student musicians from the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Special guests will include T. Hardy Morris and Thayer Sarrano
