Martin Sexton @ the Melting Point 10 2 11

I’ve heard the name ‘Martin Sexton’ for many years but I was not familiar with his music. I’ve learned enough over the last few years to take advantage when these great singer/songwriters come thru Athens. He owned the stage, made us all laugh and entertained the heck out of us on Sunday night. He sings like Leon Redbone, Ben Harper and even Ray Charles, he beat boxes like Bobby McFerrin, vocalizes like Jeff Buckly and yodels like Jewel (ha) with the sense of humor and style of Jack Black.

‘Freedom of the Road’

Sexton didn’t have a set list. In between songs he would ask for requests and it started to sound like he was an auctioneer…so he started to do it…then he started yodeling.

‘The Way I Am’

‘Can’t Stop Thinking About You’

‘Always Got Away’

‘Cards on the Table’

‘Glory Bound’ > ‘She Cries and Sings’

‘Things You Do To Me’

‘Amazing Grace (Pray for Peace)’
