I've been taking rock photos since I moved back to Athens in 2000. Before that, I would go to a rock show and sometimes go home and paint what I saw at the concert. Some of those paintings are still around and some are at family and friends houses; a few of them were sold and traded.
Now I take photos at music shows, mostly bands local to Athens Georgia. I also bring my camera with me to Georgia Bulldawg football games at Sanford Stadium.
I call what I do "gorilla rock 'n' roll photography" because I get down in the middle of the action. Sometimes I'm the oldest guy in a mosh pit. I'm never the photographer that you'll see parked at the front of the stage for the entire show and I'm never the one you'll see at the very back of the theatre standing on a step with a telephoto lens. I'm usually in the middle of the action getting pushed around and sweated on. I love the music.
I very rarely use a flash because I love the colors that the stage lights cast onto the band and audience. I try to use the natural light from the stage when I take my photos. I also delete the photos that make the musicans look ugly (as many as I can find, some folks can't help it).
Some pictures come out blurry and dark and some come out with very colorful results. I've gotten a lot better since I started and I still don't use top of the line equipment. Hopefully I'll post some of the older shows later.
I also sell houses to musicians and other great people in Northeast Georgia to make a living. I can help you find your dream house too. Go to www.AthensHome.com to see my listings.
